L’escalier (“staircase” in French) is an art studio and boutique for adults. The brandmark was created by cutting out an abstraction of a staircase. The result is a logo that resembles tangram puzzles that use interlocking pieces to form shapes and pictograms.
When the logo is enlarged, it doubles as a store-card as well as a swing-tag that can be hung on paper bags or larger products.
The formal look of the namecards is relaxed somewhat with a corner snipped off. This is partly inspired by the traditional art of paper-cutting, and serves to remind recipients of the nature of L’escalier’s business.
With the unique shape established, supergraphics were developed to dress up the shop’s interior and other future branding items.
The store signage was created with a coat of clear epoxy paint over black steel with ‘L’escalier’ raised in polished stainless steel, giving the visual contrast of something raw yet highly refined at the same time.
