We were approached by the distributor for Petfran aquaria products to design a bilingual identity for their company. A key requirement was to create a distinctive and appealing name for use in international markets.
Based on our research and recommendations, ‘ZANYON’ was selected for availability and phonetic resemblance to ‘Sheng Yuan’, the name of the company in its original Chinese characters.
To western observers, the logomark appears as a stylized ‘Z’ underscored by an up-tick. Chinese readers however, will recognize it as being derived from the 3-stroke radical for ‘water’, which is part of the character for ‘yuan’ (‘origin’).
For our client, it was a harmonious design choice as the Chinese believe that water is a source of wealth.
The Chinese word mark is rendered in a custom type face to complement the English version, which fortuitously also consists of six characters.
